My first attorney along with my ex’s attorney drafted the initial parenting plan that we filed with the court. The document was 3 1/2 pages long and included about 15 points. Little did I know there were at least 68 points that should have been included in this document in order to protect me and my son. We were never presented with a list of questions or options to choose from and several of the points were written so poorly I could barely understand them. Thinking that my attorney was doing her job properly (and for $175 per hour she should have been) I filed the document with the court. As it turned out, neither of these attorneys did their job correctly and between us we paid close to $2,000 for a poorly written, ambiguous piece of s _ _ t that ended up causing numerous legal problems for our family down the road.

Had the attorneys done their job properly, I believe my son and I would have avoided the frustration, stress and disruption to our lives which we endured during a 3-year custody dispute. Due to the lack of clarity in our parenting plan and the missing points we ended up in the courtroom on several occasions. At one point, a special advocate (an expert witness who digs into your private life) was called in and our case dragged out forever.

The information contained within this Parenting Plan Template and Guidebook is mostly from the school of very hard knocks, from both myself and other dads who have been through custody battles. If you are not satisfied with this plan for any reason I will be happy to refund your money at any time within the next 90 days.
